The village has a host of excellent pubs and interesting outlets from cycle shops to woodturning and is at the foot of the Kentmere Valley which is rich in wildlife. Kingfishers can be seen above the weir at the edge of the village in pursuit of salmon leaping on their journey up river and head of the valley has been a nesting area of the golden eagle in past years. Accommodation overview: Borwick Lodge, a former country house hotel built in the 17th century is a very special property and one that we consider will be the most perfect venue for your Lakeland holiday, be it for a family gathering, celebration or simply an annual break. The detached lodge house enjoys a three acre site of beautiful gardens, awash with well established azaleas and rhododendrons, from which to take in the panoramic views of the surrounding Hawkshead Valley whilst the house itself retains some delightful features including a delightful partly glazed verandah, the ideal shelter for pre dinner drinks. The area is ideal for exploring the traditional villages of Coniston and Hawkshead, never more than minutes away in the car, and no trip to this part of the Lakes would be complete without a stroll around The Jewel of the Lakes, Tarn Howes, an inspiring beauty spot and one attributed to bringing out the romantic side of many a man or woman! In terms of nearby facilities, The famous Drunken Duck Inn is a mere 1.5 miles away, a leisurely stroll although Hawkshead, Coniston and Ambleside all have the usual grocers, butchers, bakers as well as galleries, tea shops, pubs and restaurants.

The apartment is all on one level ad just five steps up from a small sunny garden with patio and seating - perfect for morning coffees or evening drinks. Up to the minute facilities are offered in a traditional style, with lots of home comforts, including bath sheets large enough to wrap around and luxurious goose down duvets and pillows on all beds, with non allergenic alternatives if required. There are many easy fell walks from the cottage. Accessed up a sweeping private drive, the wooded grounds are home to fascinating flora and fauna and are home to red squirrels, deer, badgers and Herdwick sheep - a perfect rural retreat. Grasmere village can be viewed from the property and has something to offer the first or returning visitor at any time of the year; from the traditional Sports and Rushbearing in the height of summer to the famous Grasmere Gingerbread, best enjoyed whilst taking in the view from the top of Helm Crag - Dunmail Raise has fine views of this peak too.

Accommodation overview: Haycote Cottage is a delightful stone built property in the heart of working farmland, a short distance from Coniston Water, Coniston village and Grizedale Forest. Lowick is a traditional village and still hosts the annual Lowick show, an excellent display of local craft and produce, the surrounding area farmed by local families throughout the ages. There are an abundance of gentle walks from the door at Haycote Cottage, and numerous villages can be reached within minutes drive, Coniston and Broughton just two. The nearby pub serves local ales and great food. The styling throughout Haycote Cottage is superb, of excellent quality and reminiscent of a boutique hotel - not quite what you would expect from a traditional Lakeland cottage but the combination works brilliantly. Perfect for those wishing to be a little off the beaten track, this is a romantic hideaway for two with that all important traditional pub within easy walking distance.
