The cottage oozes quality and character with original features in the structure, beautiful furnishings, hand built kitchen and excellent en-suite facilities. The Byre is perfect for a romantic break or an activity holiday, with secure storage for canoes, bikes, windsurfs etc and livery for horses (for additional fee). Situated in 10 acres of grounds and only 1 mile from the lake, with walks from the door step, including Aira Force where you can enjoy stunning views to Ullswater along the way. There is a shop at a neighbouring camp site, a pub within 1 mile and more amenities in Pooley Bridge, 3 miles. Accommodation overview: Loughrigg Holme sits underneath the much loved fell of the same name and was once the home of Wordsworths daughter, Dora and her husband Edward Quillinan, Rich in literary history connections, visitors to Loughrigg Holme have included Charlotte Bronte, the poet Matthew Arnold and Harriet Martineau. This chocolate box property,originally a farmhouse, built in 17th century and extended in the early 19th century is a beautiful example of a traditional Lakeland residence, her 2 1/2 acres of gardens and fellside including croquet lawn blending effortlessly into the slopes of Loughrigg and displaying a wealth of ancient shrubs and flora, cleverly married with more formal patio, lawn areas and natural water fall. A short stroll directly under Loughrigg Fell will bring you to beautiful Rydal Water, one of Lakelands smallest lakes at only ¾ mile long and ¼ mile wide and a favourite of Wordsworth and many other of the romantic poets and still, to this day, magical, peaceful and most inspiring. Ambleside can also be reached on foot within 20 minutes along a country lane, this bustling village offering numerous attractions and activities for all ages with a wide choice of bars, shops and restaurants. Loughrigg Holme is obviously steeped in Lakeland history and exhibits many historic features with dated spice cupboard, flagged floors, exposed beams and original oak stairs and shutters. The house has been beautifully dressed, the owners respecting the obvious age and fascinating literary connections to create a most comfortable and elegant home, a clever mix of 17th and 21st century, the perfect venue for a family gathering and a place where special memories will be created and treasured.
