Kingfishers can be seen above the weir at the edge of the village in pursuit of salmon leaping on their journey up river and head of the valley has been a nesting area of the golden eagle in past years. In terms of nearby facilities, The famous Drunken Duck Inn is a mere 1.5 miles away, a leisurely stroll although Hawkshead, Coniston and Ambleside all have the usual grocers, butchers, bakers as well as galleries, tea shops, pubs and restaurants.

Lowick is a traditional village and still hosts the annual Lowick show, an excellent display of local craft and produce, the surrounding area farmed by local families throughout the ages. There are an abundance of gentle walks from the door at Haycote Cottage, and numerous villages can be reached within minutes drive, Coniston and Broughton just two. The nearby pub serves local ales and great food. The styling throughout Haycote Cottage is superb, of excellent quality and reminiscent of a boutique hotel - not quite what you would expect from a traditional Lakeland cottage but the combination works brilliantly. Perfect for those wishing to be a little off the beaten track, this is a romantic hideaway for two with that all important traditional pub within easy walking distance.
