Accommodation overview: In a lovely peaceful woodland setting north of Crinan, this substantial stone built Victorian lodge was built in 1855 and has all the charm of the fairy tale 'Gingerbread House' with its pointed roof profile and overhanging eaves. Facing south, the house sits in a private, well-tended, safely enclosed garden (with garden furniture) in a secluded position on the edge of Poltalloch Estate, for which it once served as a gatehouse. Lovingly restored and furnished to a high standard, the rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with lovely views over open countryside and Kilmartin Glen.
7 miles north of Lochgilphead, there is wonderful scenery here, but also relics of prehistoric Scotland - stone circles, chambered cairns, and sculptured stones. Visit the Kilmartin House Museum or walk in the beauty of the surrounding hills, fish on lochs and rivers, watch the boats on the Crinan Canal, and taste the local seafood.
