The village has a host of excellent pubs and interesting outlets from cycle shops to woodturning and is at the foot of the Kentmere Valley which is rich in wildlife. Kingfishers can be seen above the weir at the edge of the village in pursuit of salmon leaping on their journey up river and head of the valley has been a nesting area of the golden eagle in past years. This unique cottage was converted in 2008 and is full of character, with beamed ceilings, sandstone flagged floor and a feature stone wall in the lounge. It has superb quality furnishings and luxury kitchen and bathroom facilities to provide a romantic retreat which couples will love. Lovely features of this cottage are the Harpsichord and Clavichord, which guests are welcome to play. Lazonby Hall has a woodland setting, 1 mile from the village which has pubs and a supermarket and only 10 minutes drive from the M6.
